According to the eVisitor system, compared to the same period last year Croatia boasts an increase in both arrivals and overnights
According to eVisitor, during the first five months of 2017 Croatia has welcomed 3 million visitors, with 9.3 million overnight stays - a rise of 14% in arrivals, and 11% in overnights, compared to the same period last year.
Of total arrivals and overnights, foreign tourists make up 2.4 million arrivals (+15%) and 7.7 million of the overnights (+10%), with domestic tourists also making progress advancing in arrivals by 12% and by 13% in overnights.
From January to May, the most overnights were recorded in Istria (2.56 million), the Split-Dalmatia County (1.47 million) and in Kvarner (1.42 million). Closely following are: the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the city of Zagreb, the Zadar County, the Šibenik-Knin County and the Lika-Senj County.
The continental part of the country recorded 610.000 overnights, with most ocurring in the Krapina-Zagorje County (121.000), followed by the Karlovac County and the Osijek-Baranja County. Tourists from Germany realized the most overnights (1.5 million), followed by those from Austria, Slovenia, the UK and Italy. Of the total number of overnights, the majority was realized in hotel accommodation with over 5 million hotel overnights.
The month of May also saw an increase in tourist visits - there were 1.3 million arrivals and 4.6 million overnights. Compared to May 2016, arrivals have increased by 4%, while overnights have experience a slight decline (-2%). Tourists from Germany (925.000) have recorded the most overnights in May, followed by tourists from Austria, the UK and Slovenia.
