UHPA's domestic prefered destination of the year, the Šibenik-Knin County, is launching a campaign to promote the destination through cyclotourism
This year the Šibenik-knin County has already seen positive tourism trends happen - compared to the same period last year, visits have increased by 19%, with a 26% rise in over-night stays.
A particual breakthrough was made in the field of cyclotourism, with the County Tourist Board sights set on developing its cyclotourism offers. With ninety cycling tracks (2300 km, 90 tracks and 15 routes), in the past two years this region has become a surefire attraction for cyclists from all over. For cyclotourism purposes, the County has launched the Bike&Hike platform which provides information about the tracks, track destinations, accommodation, and a number of other invaluable services for cycling visitors. All tracks are marked and designed in accordance with cycling expert standards, and special attention was paid to encorporating the offers of local family owned businesses and tourist services into the track system.
In order to create and develop a new tourism product, or contribute to the development of an entire destination, it is essential to plan strategically - and the Šibenik Knin County illustrates this fact perfectly. The County didn't launch into promoting cyclotourism in the region just by default, with a lacking tourism product, but instead decided to focus on building the site infrastructure and only upon doing so - promoting it.
“Currently, a signalling system is being installed across the region. We're also redesigning the current platform which will launch shortly with brand new video and photo material - in addition to new brochures and print materials, in Croatian, English, German and Italian. We're kicking off our promotional campaign for the whole region through cyclotourism at two of Europe's biggest cycling fairs - in Germany and Italy.”, says Željana Šikić, the Šibenik-Knin Tourist Board director.
The key features of a solid cyclotourism offer are well kept and mapped cycling tracks, a designated area for bike and apparel cleaning, basic tool set availability, bike rentals, several safe bike depositories, cycling tours (contests), high quality MTB bike and GPS system rentals, quality mapping with integrated offers of services and events etc.
