UHPA: Forty Travel Agencies Receive ISO 9001:2015 Certificates

The prestigious certificate is awarded to agencies which have, to increase their international standing, implemented the ISO quality management system. The certificates were handed out to UHPA agency representatives by Mr. Gari Cappelli, the Minister of Tourism, and Mr. Tomislav Fain, the President of UHPA.

The Association of Croatian Travel Agencies, together with forty of its members, renowned Croatian travel agencies, has successfully completed the renewal of the ISO 9001:2008 quality management standard and transitioned to the ISO 9001: 2015 standard. The certification process was carried out by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance. The project was supported by the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of Tourism Gari Cappelli, who attended the ISO 9001: 2015 Award's Ceremony, held on December 15th, 2017. The Minister stressed the importance of tourism agencies and their employees for the quality and sustainable development of Croatian tourism, expressing the Ministry's and the Croatian National Tourist Board's support of UHPA projects in general: "I congratulate all the agencies who worked hard to attain this prestigious certificate, in order to establish the management of quality to become more competitive on the market, but also the Association itself. Travel agency offers are one of the most important aspects of tourism development, they motivate the arrival of visitors and provide added value to the entire tourism industry. Therefore, we will continue to follow and support the work of the Association of Croatian Travel Agencies and its members, who have worked for years to build quality and ensure guest expectations of travel agency services are met."
 
UHPA president, Mr. Tomislav Fain welcomed the attending members and event guests. "Behind us is a great tourism year in which we achieved a record 100 million over-night stays. In large part, travel agents can take credit for this success. In terms of the turnover results for this past year, I particularly want to emphasize the increase in pre-season and post-season turnover. During those periods, the majority of achieved traffic can be accredited to travel agents. It is good to see that agencies are a valued component of the tourism sector, and we will certainly continue to work creatively in the future, regardless of the challenges and threats that lie ahead", said the president of UHPA.
 
The ISO 9001: 2015 standard is an internationally recognized standard introduced by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for quality management systems. A successfully implemented quality management system according to the ISO 9001:2015 standard, and operating in accordance with its demands, is accepted as common practice to ensure the delivery of products and services to clients and partners meets expected levels of quality. ISO certified travel agencies are committed to the delivery of quality in their products and services, and to maintaining the processes that control and improve quality continuously. 
 
The ISO certification project was launched by UHPA in 2012, resulting in the certification of the first group of members of the Association in 2014, the second group in 2015 and the recertification of forty members in 2017. Today, UHPA is the first professional Croatian association in tourism to hold the ISO 9001:2015 certificate, and one of the very few to carry out the process of certification shouldering an ensemble of its members to successfully implement and certify ISO’s quality system management.
