An appeal for a more responsible tourism sector recovery based on sustainability
The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) published its new vision for global tourism called „The One Planet Vision for the Responsible Recovery of the Tourism Sector“.
The programme is an upgrade to UNWTO’s existing Global guidelines for restarting tourism and finding a way out of the globally imposed COVID-19 crisis. The One Planet vision appeals for a responsible recovery of the tourism sector based on sustainability, which will ensure its agility and resilience in future crises. It has six main guidelines: public health, social inclusion, biodiversity conservation, climate action, circular economy, and governance and finance.
„Sustainability cannot be a niche in tourism, it has to be the norm for every part of our sector. It´s one of the central elements of our Global guidelines for restarting tourism. The transformation of tourism is in our hands, as well as the turning point of sustainable tourism post COVID-19“, said Zurab Pololikašvili, UNWTO general secretary.
