Terra Gothica Incognita Project Presented in Slovenia

UHPA is one of six partners on the EU co-funded project

On Wednesday, September 18th 2024, the Terra Gothica Incognita project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the INTERREG Slovenia - Croatia Cross-border Cooperation Program for 2021 - 2027 was unveiled. The project, in which the Association of Croatian Tavel Agencies (UHPA) is participating alongside five other project partners, was presented to the media and the public at the Pretorian palace in Koper (Slovenia).

Besides UHPA, the five other partners involved in the project include the City of Kastav as the project’s lead partner and as partners: the City of Koper (SLO), the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria (CRO), the Koper Regional Museum (SLO), and the Koper Regional Development Agency (SLO). The press conference was followed by the project’s kick-off meeting.

The main goal of the project, valued at 2.433.073,77 EUR is to deal with the challenges related to the protection and valorisation of medieval cultural heritage in the border areas of Croatia and Slovenia. The expected project outcome is the creation of a new cultural heritage destination, Terra Gothica Incognita. The project was launched on September 1st 2024 and is set to run until February 28th 2027, with the support of the EU Interreg Slovenia – Croatia program.

The project is focused on the preservation and protection of the area’s neglected medieval cultural heritage. It will tackle the challenges of raising awareness within the local community about the role of culture in the economic development, the absence of a uniform strategy for cultural tourism development and the varying quality of tourism services in the cross-border area. The main project goals include preserving cultural heritage, developing a cross-border destination and raising awareness within the local community about the value of cultural heritage and its potential for economic development.
