New rules for travelling to the UK

From March 2025, the ETA system for electronic entry authorization to the UK for European Union citizens will come into effect.

From March 2025, citizens of all European Union member states who wish to visit the United Kingdom will be able to apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation). They will have to pay a fee of £10 (approximately €11.60).

EU citizens (excluding Ireland), EFTA members, and other European micro-countries (e.g., Vatican, Andorra, etc.) can apply starting March 5th for travel from April 2nd, 2025. Each traveler, including babies and children, requires an ETA. Applications can be made here.

The Electronic Travel Authorisation System (ETA) is already in force for citizens of individual third-party countries. It applies to all non-British/non-Irish citizens traveling to the UK who do not require a visa to enter the country, such as EU/EFTA countries (excluding Ireland), Japan, Canada, and the USA. The entry into force of the new rules is different for each country, and the list is available on the British government website - here
