Green tax increased in Maldives
Since January 1st, the green tax has doubled on this popular archipelago

The Maldives, a popular destination among tourists, increased the non-resident fees and amended the Tourist Goods and Services Tax (TGST), which came into effect on December 1, 2024. Additionally, on January 1, the 'green tax' was doubled.
This means that the pensions and accomodations with less than 50 room, now charge their guests $6 per night, due to green tax instead of $3 per night, at the same time resorts will charge $12 per person per night. Kids younger than 2 years old are free of charge.
With these changes, the authorities in the Maldives aim to use the power of the tourism sector to generate more income for economic growth.
