EU updates its air safety list of banned airlines

Following the update, a total of 154 airlines are prohibited from operating within the EU sky

The list of airlines that are fully or partially banned from operating within the European Union due to non-compliance with international safety standards was updated on June 9, 2026.

Following this update, a total of 154 airlines are banned from the EU skies:

  • 126 airlines certified in 16 different countries, due to inadequate safety oversight by the aviation authorities of those states;

  • 22 airlines certified in Russia, as well as 6 individual airlines from other countries, based on identified and serious safety deficiencies: Air Express Algeria (Algeria), Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe), Avior Airlines (Venezuela), Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Fly Baghdad (Iraq), and Iraqi Airways (Iraq).

Two additional airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly into the EU with specific aircraft types: Iran Air (Iran) and Air Koryo (North Korea).

Compared to the previous EU Air Safety List published in June 2026, all airlines certified in Kyrgyzstan have now been removed from the list, while Air Express Algeria has been added and can no longer operate within the EU.

As a reminder, in accordance with Regulation 2111/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council, travel agencies and tour operators are obligated to inform passengers about the EU Air Safety List. If a passenger has a contract with a tour operator for a flight outside the EU and the carrier is on the Air Safety List, the passenger is entitled to a rerouting or a full refund.
