The new aircraft was presented to Slovenian business partners, journalists, and travel agents

On Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Croatia Airlines presented its new Airbus A220 aircraft to Slovenian business partners, journalists, and travel agents at Ljubljana Airport. The occasion for the gathering was of a sporting nature: the Slovenian national football team flew into the Slovenian capital on the Airbus A220, the model with which Croatia Airlines is renewing its fleet. With this event, the Croatian national carrier emphasized the importance of the Slovenian market, cooperation with local partners, and the strategic significance of the largest fleet renewal in the company's history.
Slaven Žabo, Director of Commercial Affairs at Croatia Airlines, stated that the recorded growth of tourists in Slovenia could be even higher through the development of air routes.
"The Slovenian market is very important to Croatia Airlines. The Croatian national carrier maintains successful cooperation with a large number of Slovenian partners here; we are focused on further strengthening and expanding business relationships and are always at the disposal of the Slovenian tourism and economic sectors, as well as, of course, all passengers," stated Slaven Žabo.
He reminded those present that Croatia Airlines currently operates a fleet of 16 aircraft, including six new Airbus A220-300 aircraft with 149 passenger seats. Another new aircraft, the first A220-100 type with a capacity of 127 seats, is expected by the end of the year, and the fleet renewal project is slated for completion in 2027, when the entire fleet will consist of 15 new A220 aircraft. Furthermore, he noted that the airline plans to operate nearly 10,000 flights this winter, offering over 1.18 million seats, which is 7.7% more flights and 21% more seats compared to the 2024/2025 winter period.
Co-pilot Kralj Gašper shared his personal flying experience with the Airbus A220, highlighting that the aircraft is the most modern in its class:
-
It consumes 25% less fuel and emits 25% less CO2.
-
It has a 50% smaller noise footprint, making it quieter.
-
Passengers benefit from more comfortable and wider seats, more legroom, panoramic windows, Wi-Fi capabilities, and charging ports at every seat.
Matej Knaus, President of the Association of Slovenian Travel Agencies and General Manager of TA Palma, emphasized the great importance of connecting Ljubljana Airport with the world. He expressed satisfaction in supporting carriers that ensure the highest safety and environmental standards. He concluded that the new A220 aircraft will enable Slovenian tourists to have pleasant and fast travel to destinations such as Dubrovnik, Split, and Brač, while contributing to a high-quality offer for visitors from around the world who visit Slovenia and Croatia simultaneously.
The presentation in Ljubljana confirms the strategic importance of the Slovenian market for Croatia Airlines and marks another step in strengthening connectivity and cooperation between Croatia and Slovenia.
