Six Croatian destinations ranked among the world’s most sustainable
The Golden Green Destinations award for sustainability has been presented to Plitvice Lakes National Park

The Green Destinations conference took place this year from September 28th to 30th in Montpellier, France, with Croatian destinations achieving outstanding results. The Silver Green Destinations award was presented to Međimurje County and the City of Varaždin, while Plitvice Lakes National Park received the Golden Green Destinations award. Additionally, five destinations earned a spot on the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list for 2025. These include Mali Lošinj, Međimurje County, Krka National Park, Plitvice Lakes National Park, and Sveti Ivan Zelina, all ranked among the top 100 examples of sustainable tourism practices worldwide. In terms of the total number of certified destinations, Croatia ranks among the top five countries, alongside Australia, France, Portugal, and Slovenia, testifying to the significant investment our country makes in sustainable tourism management and competitiveness.
The awards ceremony at the Green Destinations global annual conference was an exceptional opportunity to promote Croatian tourism and destinations investing in sustainable development. "We are proud that Croatia achieved such great results. This success proves that Croatian destinations increasingly recognize the importance of sustainability and are actively working on competitive tourism management. We are particularly pleased to be among the TOP 5 destinations in terms of sustainability and that Croatia belongs among the best in the world," stated Tourism Lab, the representative of Green Destinations in Croatia.
These recognitions are proof of the commitment of all tourism workers, especially those directly responsible for tourism management in their destinations. Croatia currently has ten tourism destinations with Green Destinations awards - three with gold, five with silver, and two with bronze status - with several more in the certification process. Five destinations are featured on the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list for 2025, with Mali Lošinj, Međimurje County, and Plitvice Lakes National Park standing out for consistently proving their place among the world's most sustainable destinations.
